Behaviour Policy- Relational Approach
At Swanwick Primary School, we believe that behaviour is a form of communication, and that all behaviour—whether positive or challenging—reflects an underlying need, skill, or emotional state.
Our approach is rooted in the understanding that children learn to regulate their behaviour through secure relationships, consistent routines, and explicit teaching.
Our school is underpinned by the values of curiosity, courage, and kindness. These values shape everything we do and define the culture we are striving to build. We aim for every child to:
Be curious about the world, their learning, and themselves
Show courage in their choices, their resilience, and their willingness to grow
Demonstrate kindness in their actions, relationships, and contribution to the school community
We are committed not only to supporting positive behaviour in the present, but to developing children’s character over time.
Our ultimate aim is to ensure that every pupil leaves Swanwick Primary School as a thoughtful, respectful and resilient individual, equipped to be a positive citizen and a genuinely good person.

What structure will our 'Fix it' conversations have?
Consistency is key and all adults will use this guide to format any conversations around Wave 2 behaviours
The Positive Choice Menu is used to allow children a chance to consider ways to either fix their behaviour or consider ways they could resolve big feelings in the future
As with Wave 2- the above shows the format of a Restorative conversation following Wave 3 behaviours. Children are also encouraged to think about positive choices in the future whilst also discussing ways to restore relationships in the present
