Computing at Swanwick Primary School

At Swanwick Primary school, we know that the world of computing and Online Safety is constantly evolving and we want pupils to be confident in the use of different technology through a mastery approach that combines skills, critical thinking and being safe.

Technology is everywhere and will play a pivotal part in pupils' lives. Therefore, we educate our pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely. Building knowledge in this subject allows pupils to demonstrate their learning through creative use of technology. We recognise that technology can allow pupils to share their learning in creative ways. We want our pupils to be creators not consumers and our broad curriculum reflects this. We want our pupils to understand that there is always a choice with using technology and as a school we utilise technology to model positive use.

We recognise that the online world can be scary and offer potential dangers and so believe the best prevention of issues seen with the online world is through education. We offer positive and proactive education through discussion, cross-curricular learning, instruction and reflection that aim to equip pupils with safe skills that can be used in a host of online situations. We offer open dialogue with pupils, parents and the wider community with judgement-free advice and support.
