Lets get active!
The PE and School Sports Premium is designed to help Primary Schools improve the quality of the PE and sports activities they offer their pupils. This year schools are being given £16,000 per year plus an additional £10 per pupil in years 1 to 6, based on the school census. This is double the amount we have received in previous years.

Sports Premium Spending
The Sports Premium funding has already had a large impact on Physical Education and sport at Swanwick Primary School. As a school we have thought carefully about how we spend the funding. Last year some of the benefits were:
Improved the quality of games lessons with each class working closely with a coach from the Amber Valley School Sports Partnership for at least one terms games coaching chosen by staff to increase staff confidence and develop children’s skill levels and application of skills. This has developed staff confidence and increased knowledge of progression of skills for the given unit.
Improved the health and fitness of children across the whole school by taking part in the Swanwick Kilometre. The Swanwick Kilometre has encouraged children to run for longer periods of times without stopping, increasing fitness. The purchase of new certificates, designed for the school allows children to compete over different distances and reward their success.
We have maintained the number of children taking part in clubs and competitions both after school and at lunch times. The biggest increase in participation was seen with Pupil Premium Children. We have continued to compete in high quality competitions run by the School Sports Partnership with great success.
Girl’s participation has increased through a high quality gymnastics Club.A multi skills club has also taken place once a week throughout the year showing high numbers of participants. Children were engaged in a variety of different sports and associated skills. At lunch times Mrs Naylor from the Sports Partnership has worked with mini leaders and continued the reward scheme as recognition of the children’s time and effort. There has been an increase in the number of intra school competitions at lunch times with children competing for their house.
This year we held an opening Ceremony before the sports day which proved to be a success. It gave a real Olympic feel and sense of occasion.

Over the next year we plan to continue the following:
Maintain the quality of Games lessons by continuing to work with Mrs Naylor from the Amber Valley Sports Partnership
Continue with the Swanwick Kilometre to increase fitness levels and competition
Introduce a fitness test and intervention programme to develop fitness though a variety of exercises and help to measure the fitness levels of children across school. From this we can then put in intervention programs where necessary.
Employ the sports partnership to ensure each class experiences a different sporting experience to those offered within the PE curriculum.
Employ a play leader to support mini leaders at lunch times.
