The PPod is our provision to support the social, emotional and mental wellbeing of our children and their families. It has been running since 2016 and developed out of a growing need for support in schools and the expectation to meet higher thresholds to access services elsewhere. We recognise that mental health and wellbeing is pivotal for a child to be able to engage with learning.
We secured a bursary as part of a scheme run by Derbyshire’s Virtual School – The Attachment Aware Schools Programme. The bursary helped to fund the provision we are now able to offer from furnishings, to resources and we are now part of a growing number of schools within Derbyshire who are recognised as being ‘Attachment Aware Schools’ – something which we are very proud of!
We offer support to children and their families who are dealing with anything from Morning Meltdowns, Family Breakdown, Bereavement and everything else in between. We have highly trained and skilled staff who can deliver therapeutic interventions at the most complex, down to being a dab hand at making a cuppa and providing a shoulder!
The PPod is free of judgement and is a calm, relaxing space where everyone is encouraged to talk openly and honestly about what is on their mind. We are able to signpost to further support if needed and liaise closely with a range of Professionals from Education, Health and Social Care.
Our door is always open, to parents and children and we offer a lunchtime Drop-In for children once a week (usually a Monday). We also arrange fundraising events and activities to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and wellbeing so look out for those.
The PPod is open during each parents evening and open evening as well as during New Starter events. We monitor the impact and effectiveness of the provision in the PPod regularly, and report at least annually to our Governors who are incredibly supportive of this provision.
If you are a parent or carer and would like to contact the PPod for further information or because you would like to talk to us about a concern then either phone the school on:
01773 602268 and ask for Helen Stone or Mel Walton
You can email us on our confidential email address: firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Alternatively, one of us is usually on the gate each morning so feel free to grab us to arrange a chat then.
Parents, teachers and children can refer to the PPod for support and we will endeavour to provide the support that you need. If we can’t then we will point you in the direction of someone who can.
